Academy Director- Sergeant Gregory Gunter - Fairfield Police Department
Sgt. Gunter joined the Fairfield Explorer Post at age 14. He then joined the Fairfield Police Dept. as a Patrol Officer at age 21. Sgt Gunter has been an Explorer Advisor ever since. Sgt. Gunter has attended numerous academies and has served as a Range Officer, Field Training Officer and Assistant Director of the Mock PD before becoming the Assistant Academy Director.
Basic Academy Director- Sergeant Mike Fisher- Wethersfield PD
Sergeant Fisher started his law enforcement career as Deputy Sheriff with the Plymouth County Sheriff's Department in Massachusetts. Hired by the Wethersfield Police Department in 1995, he has served as a patrol officer, A DARE instructor, a juvenile detective and currently serves as a Sergeant in the patrol division. A graduate of Northeastern University's College of Criminal Justice, Sergeant Fisher has been part of the Explorer Police Academy and now the Cadet Police Academy for more than a decade. He has served in the roles of classroom instructor, Assistant Drill Instructor, Drill Instructor and is looking forward to serving his sixth year as the Basic Training Program Director.
Basic Academy Asst. Director- Sergeant Michele Neary- Windsor PD
Sergeant Neary was a Police Explorer in Central Massachusetts, attended
the MA State Police Student Trooper Program, graduated from Westfield
State College with a Dual Bachelor's in Criminal Justice and Regional
Planning and received a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice
Administration from Western New England College . While in college, Sgt.
Neary worked as a summer special police officer for the Towns of
Nantucket and Wellfleet, MA. Hired by the Windsor Police Department in
1997, she has served as a Patrol Officer, Detective and currently serves
as a Sergeant in the patrol division. Sergeant Neary has been part of
the Explorer Police Academy and now the Cadet Police Academy for more
than five years. She has served in the roles of classroom instructor,
Assistant Drill Instructor, Drill Instructor and is looking forward to
her third year as the Basic Training Program Assistant Director.
Advanced Academy Director- Detective Nikki Mordasiewicz- Hartford PD
Detective Nikki Mordasoewicz has worked for the Hartford Police Department for 7 years. She is currently assigned to Juvenile Investigative Division. Prior to getting on the job with the Hartford Police, Detective Mordasiewicz was a Police Explorer with the Wethersfield Police Department for 7 years. Detective Mordasiewicz is currently also the coordinator for the Hartford Police Explorer Program . Prior to working with the Advanced Program of the Cadet Police Academy, she worked for five years as an advisor to Explorer Police academy.
Field Training Director- Sergeant Frank Foley- Newton MA. PD
is a member of the Newton Police Department (MA). He began his law enforcement
career as a member of the Newton Police Explorer Program at the age of 14. In
1998 he joined the Newton Police Department as a full-time sworn officer and
became an advisor to the explorer program. In 2004 he was promoted to the rank
of Sergeant. Sgt Foley has a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice and has worked
as a Youth Investigator, Tactical Team Member, FTO Program Supervisor and other
roles with in his department. The Explorer program has been a part of Sergeant
Foley's life for 20 years. He hopes the Explorer program and the Cadet program
will continue to be a part of his life for 20 more years
Career Development Director- Officer Greg Kenney- Litchfield Police Department
Officer Kenney was a member of the Connecticut State Police for the past 21. He is currently an officer for the Litchfield Police Department. He served for 11 years in the United States Army working as a Military Police Officer. He has been an advisor for the Litchfield Police Explorer program for the past 9 years and involved with the Explorer Police Academy for four years and is now on the executive board with the Cadet Police Academy.
Mountain Bike Director- Lt. Nelson J Abarzua, Prospect Police Department
Tfc. Abarzua was been a member of the CT State Police for 25 years and retired in 2011. He was assigned as the Prospect Resident Trooper. LT Abarzua is a certified I.P.M.B.A instructor for 10 years training both Troopers and local offficers. He has been the Director of the Mountain Bike Program for 10 years.
Range Director- Off. Dave Antedomenico- Danbury PD
Officer Antedomenico began his career as a Danbury Police Explorer at age 16. In 1995 he joined the Danbury Police Department as a full-time sworn Officer and has spent the last seven years as a Crime Scene Investigator. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Justice and Law Administration and a Master's Degree in Justice Administration. Officer Antedomenico started as an advisor with the former Explorer Police Academy in 1992 and is currently on the Executive Staff of the Cadet Police Academy as Range Director.
Housing Director- Gail Balzano- CT State Police
Gail has worked for the Department of Public Safety for the past 26 years. She has been involved in Connecticut Police Explorer Programs for over 30 years. As a youth, she was a member of the Waterbury Police Explorer post, and became an advisor, leading the post for 20 years. For the last 30 years, Gail has been an active member of all Police Explorer Academies and now is Administration and Housing Director for the Cadet Police Academy.
Activities Director- Robert Smedley- New Britain PD
In 1998 Robert joined the New Britain Police Explorers and graduated from the post as Captain seven years later. Graduating from The University of Connecticut in 2007 with a B.A in Sociology, he currently works for the New Britain Police Department as a Dispatcher and for the Consolidated School District of New Britain where he is the Energy Manager. Smedley also handles all security technology throughout the district including cameras and controlled access technology. Smedley worked for the Explorer Academy as the Activities Director in 2009 and is now on the Executive Board with the Cadet Academy as the Entertainment/ Activities Director. His most memorable moment with the Police Explorer Program was receiving the Directors Award when he graduated Phase four of the Explorer Academy under the direction of Sgt Greg Kenney.
Secretary- Janet O'Connor-
In 1992 Janet became involved in the Explorer program when her son left the West Hatford Post. In 2003 Janet worked as an advisor to the post for many years. In 1989 Janet began handwriting, in calligraphy, all the certificates that were awarded at the Explorer Academy and now for the Cadet Police Academy. She is currently a Police Crossing Guard and has been for the last 18 years.
Board Member- Lieutenant Matt McNally - Danbury Police Department
Lieutenant McNally has been a Police Explorer / Cadet Advisor for over two decades and has spent that time as an Advisor for both the Explorer Police Academy and now the Cadet Police Academy. Lieutenant McNally has worked his way from "Range Rat" to his current position as Cadet Academy Director. As a F.B.I. and P.O.S.T. certified police instructor and adjunct professor (Criminal Justice/Homeland Security) at Goodwin College, Lieutenant McNally holds a Bachelor's degree in Justice and Law Administration and his Master's in Forensic Science. Lieutenant enjoys spending his free time training and educating tomorrow's leaders today!
